fast forward 3 years…

Time flies.. literally. Days pass by without realizing and only when i consciously thought of writing, a blob post to put my thoughts on paper i realized its been 3 years since my last one.

So much happened in the last 3 years, hard to put on paper. Don’t feel like looking back other than to appreciate what went well, assess current state of mind and plan for the coming months and years.

Mid Year Review – 2020

Running102 km
Cycling1007 km

Running took back stage once lock-down began in India around mid march. Was lucky to relocate in time to Hyderabad and joined Microsoft exactly 1 week before mandatory lockdown came into effect. Implies all the on-boarding was virtual and next 2 months was a suffocating period. No walking, running or cycling outside. Masks all the time, panic everywhere. Still things were smooth thanks to the society’s planning.

Wahoo Kickr Snap i bought couple of years back came to rescue. Paired it up with Zwift and virtual cycling became more fun. With 0 km in Jan and Feb, i thought this is the right time to put on some cycling kms.

March – 100 km
April – 277 km
May – 120 km
June – 517 km

Idea is to maintain the temp rest of the year in cycling and gradually pick up some running as well.

2019 running review

Looking from distance point of view – 610 km, well short of 1000 km target i hoped to do. Plan was also to hit 100km mileage each month, but even though it didn’t happen, i failed to hit 100 km even in a single month. Not happy at all with this. Not much worried about the pace, plan is to hit the distance and keep consistent across months. Will add interval training slowly and pace will be taken care of.

One positive takeaway is that i got to do 2 half-marathons in the second half of 2019… So i can build on that..

Simply put want to hit 100km+ every month in 2020. No extravagant goals, just keep the distance consistent.

2019… a year of celebration and accomplishment

It began with new year celebration with friends over a tasty dinner at Echoes 😃Casual conversation and gossip filled the time, of-course we had tasty food and drinks for company 🤘😎

Once the fun was over and everyone dispersed and things went back to normal, i had this constant thought on wat 2019 got in store for me !! I am not a believer in NewYear Resolutions, given i used to take them in excitement rather than with proper thought, and used to end up not accomplishing them. Started 2019 with no resolutions. Just a thought to get better and be better.

Casual Ride nd Coffee.. perfect combo…

If there is one thing that will lift your spirit, that’s a b’day treat. Its sania’s B’day and we got a perfect excuse to call it a cheat day. Be it the ambience or the food, i say Smoke House Deli at Indira Nagar is the best i visited this year.

Among these meet-ups somewhere, plans were being made for a much needed and delayed trip and it finally came to fruition in Feb. The trip to Gokarna … 😃

Day 1 went by so quickly.. spent few hours playing frisbee at the pool 😀 Had to force ourselves to get out of pool and hit the beach 😛 The trek along the coast line was fun, tiring, awesome all at the same time…

Paradise Beach -> Small Hell Beach -> Half Moon Beach —> Om Beach… Through rocks nd waves.. perfect trek to end the day 🏃🤘😎

The trek certainly took a toll on us, but things went as per plan with Uno and some drinks to end the day. Of-course we had to force rashi to stay awake 😛 Day 2 ended up being the best with some tasty lunch casual walk/trek along the beach some freesbee, with casual conversation filling the gaps.. 🤘 with best company nd lot of memories as alwaz the trip ended 🖖

A month went by and its march already… Its Harley time 😀 Medlife, where i work, decided to organize a harley ride and fund 50% of the expenses. Though i am not a crazy fan of a cruiser, i signed up right away. Turned out it was an xperience i will cherish, though i have no plans to repeat 😛

Ride Harley Davidson ✔️

Life time experience cruising at 120 kmph 😎 With the best company to keep us going through the rising temperatures nd seasoned riders leading the ride, it was awesome xperience… Lot of memories riding 200+ km and 200 km pillion, a close call 🤫 and plenty of conversations with like/diverse minds. Trip to remember 🤘😃 #harleyDavidson #street750

Meanwhile, big plans were in progress in the background.. cause parents said its time to get hitched and so we did 😃Thus 6th April, 2019 became our RokaDay 😛

April left in a hurry… and so did Iron Man 😦  Wat an ending to an amazing 11 year journey 😎#WhateverItTakes

May gave me an opportunity to re-define my north which was Mumbai till then 🤣 Time to hit Nainital  😎

It’s July and its Rashu’s B’day… and sania came up with crazy way to name the cake 🤣🤣

Got myself a new Garmin 😃😃With music player in-built its awesm  😎 #july

Its been 1 year since i moved to Bangalore and joined Medlife. It has been a great learning experience but for reasons unknown (or known but i don’t want to reveal 😛) i felt its time to move on. Opportunity in the name of Walmart knocked on the door and i was too happy to accept 😃and thus a new journey began 🤘Walmart has always been one of the dream companies i wanted to work having heard a lot about from seniors and friends… so just can’t explain the happiness

Time for the event i have been waiting (and kind of training) all year long…. Airtel Hyderabad Marathon 😃Only this time its even better with ayush and rashi tagging along for a casual get-together at Hyderabad. While my training was say far from adequate, i was happy to finish the event in respectable time (2.48) 😛Fuck it.. who am i kidding.. Its by far my worst half-marathon timing. I felt like shit and wanted to do something abt it.. That is a story for another time.. 😃

September was a blur … Oh i forgot, we had finalized the wedding date as November 28th 😃so its shopping time 😎nd wat better place for wedding shopping than Delhi nd so we went. Turned out they need a week to do alterations for a guy, so we had to head to Hyderabad for my shopping. That turned out to be a long, tiring but fun-filled 4-5 day vacation, taking me from Bangalore to Delhi to Hyderabad and back to Bangalore. And i was like “Wow.. Wedding Shopping Done” 😃😃🤘#October

Well… to give an idea on how tight the schedule was, i had to run Bengaluru Half Marathon 5 days after the long shopping spree. But i kind of trained enough, taking motivation from my worst performance at AHM. One of the best self-paced runs i did, with pace staying close to same throughout the run only getting better at the end 🤘#13thOctober

It’s not just the wedding but the events nd stories leading to the wedding that made it more memorable 😃Time for pre-wedding shoot nd trip to Chikmagalur 🤘The place was gorgeous and with rashi with me, it felt even better 😊 Even though we planned a 2-day trip, we were too busy posing around and didn’t get to appreciate the place. One more trip is due… #octoberEnd

The journey to the wedding venue which is Riverside by Aahma, a picturesque resort at Jim Corbett National Park, one of the pleasant nd cool places i have been to, started from one of the hottest places i have been to, Chennai 😛While the journey, the celebrations and the memories are things i will keep close to heart, the pics give a small glimpse of wat happened…

The journey back was equally memorable with Rashi Tagging along as my wife 😛😃😃Time to turn ethnic for Satyanarayan vrat at home town 😎🤘The vrat though demanding in its own way has a different story to say. We were doing it a day after finishing a very long journey… It started with 8 hour road trip followed by 6 hour wait at airport followed by 3 hour flight time followed by 4 hour road trip… Nd add a flat tyre and additional wait time here and there ☹️🤣

Though the journey was long nd demanding, it’s where we made memorable memories cause of friends and family 😀Best part, though one long journey ended, an even longer adventurous nd awesm journey began with Rashi 😀😀 let’s see wat life has to offer 🖖

Looking forward to 2020…
”’ Live life like it’s ur last day”’

2018 .. a sweet disaster

Lot happened in 2018.. some good and some bad. Lets see

Good part being

  • Brother’s Wedding 😀 Added one amazing member into the family.
  • Changed job and moved to Banglore, where the weather is awesome and got to hangout with my best buddies more often.
  • Learned a lot at work, where the mood is up and culture in its own way is lot encouraging.
  • Got new car 😀 Baleno
  • Finally got my teeth ache issue fixed – with root canal treatment 😛
Last day @Mentor Graphics with these crazy ppl 😀 farewells are interesting and depressing.
Dream first car .. fireRed Baleno 😀

Now the bad or say baddest part

  • Life style got messed up to the maximum extent possible, junk food, lot of carborated drinks, ice cream, sweets … i mean everything except anything healthy.
  • Just 269 km of running nd 604 km of cycling.

Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes.

The year is done.. New year is all about fresh beginnings.. i believe. Want to start slow and start smart and go one month at a time. Got a small target of 100 km of running for January 2019. Keep the diet clean and healty loaded with Protein, Calcium and fibre and parallelly work on self-descipline. Looks like a tough road ahead. Lets see how it goes…

Year starts off with lots of fun with the best ppl #2019

Thougths on #MeToo

Tags

,

Lot has been going on in the world and most recetly in India relating to #MeToo campaign. Without a question this opened gates for victims to come out, share their story and get justice. But this is also giving chance for people with ill motives to hurt innocent people.

Given the “Media Circus” we live in, once you ruin a innocent person socially, he/she is ruined for life and many look fo suicide as the only option. Abuse of power is not new and its good to see people coming forward bravely to fight against it. Credit, ironically goes to Media and Social Netoworking Platforms for giving the victims to voice their horrors and demand for juitice. Hence, Justice was served quickly by crippling the abuser, even though courts drag the case for years (may be decades in India). But is the Media investigating responsibly or just looking for TRP ratings. In India, its the second without a doubt. This gets me to the line

Let a hundred guilty be acquitted, but one innocent should not be convicted

Given the abuse of power in all steps of life faced by a man/woman, be it when getting caught by traffic cop or getting a driving license or to say getting anything done, requires resorting to some form of corruption to get the job done. Sometimes its monetary and sometimes its not. When you see from this point of view things become very clear. “The person giving any form of bribe is equally guilty as the person receiving it”. Now to point an example, if i pay a bribe to a police man to escape at that time and later raise my voice and shout i am victim, i was asked to pay bribe, is it justified. Sure the policeman is guilty of abusing power and asking for bribe and so was i for giving bribe. Somelines from wiki…

In March 2018, Weinstein’s lawyer and spokesperson Benjamin Brafman said in an interview with The Times of London, “The casting couch in Hollywood was not invented by Harvey Weinstein.” … “If a woman decides that she needs to have sex with a Hollywood producer to advance her career and actually does it and finds the whole thing offensive, that’s not rape.” Rhetorically addressing such a woman, Brafman said, “You made a conscious decision that you’re willing to do something that is personally offensive in order to advance your career.”

                             – source Wikipedia

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t support this Weinstein guy. I give zero fucks about him. The point is what i mentioned before,

“get what you need” -> “get successful/earn money/” -> “2/5/10/15 years later” -> “cry harassment”.

Now before you feminists go crazy, i am referring to situations where the case was mutually benificial, even though the case of Abuse of Power. The victim went along as long as it was profitable (very dirty word to use here) and then after some time reports, not “Abuse of Power”, but “Sexual/Mental Harassement”. Some “award-winning” female writer from India, went as far as inviting chetan bhagat, the guy who harassed her as chief guest to her book book opening (which was after she was reportedly harassed by him) and then later conveniently cried abuse when #MeToo campaign started. I don’t care about this bhagat guy or what the story is, but it may be Abuse of Power (must be punished for the same) but certainly not harassement no matter what the transaction between them was. This can be said as the classic case of mis-using a revolutionary campaign.

It may be hard to swallow to see even the victim as probable “accused”. But unless investigation is being done along these lines by Media, more innocents will be consumed by the #MeToo campaign by the time its done or worst case take the limelight away from actual victims.

Some one should think about the victims of the campaign or it is just Collateral Damage or say For the Greater Good.

Thoughts… chasing greatness

Ever thought to take a pause in your fast paced life and have a look at wat the fuck is happening ?

I asked myself this question and followed it up with some retrospection of the past year and beyond with a magnifying glass. The result was not sweet.

“Life has been going at a high pace for me to think” or this is the reason i kept giving myself i guess. How this year (2018) panned out is not exactly wat i thought at the beginning of the year. The same goes for the previous 3 years as well. Things have been blurry lately with little going as per plan and sometimes there is no plan either. I was just taking things as they come by, and i am scared to think wat will happen if i continue the trend. After 10 years i might look back at my life and say “wat the hell happened in the past 10 years of my life”. There will be no going back from there.

I am currently overweight by 11 kgs, ran 187 km not, this month, but since beginning of 2018. Cycling has been decent with 511 km. Lifestyle has been a disaster with very bad food habits and sleeping routine- there was none. Things just fell apart. After much thought on what went wrong and where, i came to this realization – which is not desired but just happened.

Bad work satisfaction and having a weirdo manager will have affect on your personal life, make u look for distractions to forget the shit that happened at work and thereby lead to binge eating and binge watching (tv series/movies).

To prove the same, if i am able to think and look back at my life so far, implies i have a clear mind now. I am burden free to atleast initiate the thought process. Change of job which not only pays well but also provides that satisfaction certainly helps. Also moving out of Hyderabad (my second home for past 10 years) to Banglore added some freshness which is very much appreciated. Add some good friends into that mix, it gets even better.

Things started to show promise after moving to Banglore. Food habits are already at 80-90% best. Sleep routine is improving quickly and running has again become a priority in my life. Now i am able to think about those grand plans i had few years back, be it running ultra distances of 50km and 100km, 24 hours stadium runs and at the bare minimum 30/42 km in training. Got my eye on getting some muscle as well.

Want to get back to the mode where i used to challenge myself and attain my goals, keep raising the benchmark and keep improving.. chasing greatness

Week 2 of July’18

Half Way into the challenge.. stats are promising despite the extreme pain in left foot.

Screenshot 2018-07-15 21.48.48

I was able to complete this week’s quota, but am still lagging behind schedule by 5km ie 45/50 half way into the month. Plan to get some 2-day rest to the left foot before hitting next run. So, don’t have to lace-up till Wednesday morning. Only to-do till then is to take enough protein and calcium to support the recovery.

IMG_20180714_130121Adding to successfully meeting the weekly mileage, visited Golkonda Fort and later to Guilt Trip to test out the “Redvelvet Cheese Pastry” and “Redvelvet Chocolate Pastry” over a casual meet up with Cousin. Until next week…
